Ten years ago today, United completed the signing of one of world football's hottest young prospects as an 18-year-old Wayne Rooney arrived from Everton.
Rooney had been linked with the Reds all summer after some storming displays for England at Euro 2004 and manager Sir Alex
Ferguson was delighted to seal the deal. "I think we have got the best young player this country has seen in the past 30 years," he said, while Rooney added: "I'm excited to be joining a club as big as Manchester United. I feel this can only improve my career."
It's certainly safe to say he has made a huge impact during his time at Old Trafford, with 217 goals and nine major honours to date. Let's hope for many more memorable moments in the coming years.
