On 31th March, 2014, the Government of Japan and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania will sign Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant Project “The food security project for underprivileged farmers”.

The grant which will be provided from the Government of Japan, amounts to three hundred and eighty million Japanese Yen (\380,000,000), approximately six billion ninety million Tanzanian Shillings (Tsh 6,061,000,000).

This project aims to improve food production, especially for underprivileged farmers, and its ultimate goal is to enhance food security in Tanzania. The grant is provided to the Government of Tanzania for procurement of fertilizer. After the procurement, the fertilizer will be supplied to farmers through private companies.

The income derived from the sale of the fertilizer can make it possible for the Government of Tanzania to support agricultural development and poverty alleviation by providing infrastructure or access to financial opportunities for underprivileged farmers.

H. E. Mr. Masaki Okada, Ambassador of Japan, and Dr. Servacius B. Likwelile, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania, will sign the Exchange of Notes, and Mr. Yasunori Onishi, Chief Representative of JICA Tanzania Office, and Dr. Servacius B.
